Oh bugger. My favourite record shop in town (and the only place which sold really good music on CD round here) has closed. I'm really quite gutted so I've abandoned the band I was going to blog about (next time, Florian, next time) to put up a couple of songs by Art Brut, whose album I stumbled across in Criminal Records, which is sadly no more.
Art Brut - Formed A Band mp3 (available for 7 days)
Everything about Art Brut and their guitar-heavy, shouty singing brilliance gives me a smile. Formed A Band - released as a single in 2004 - is one of only two ever-present songs on my mp3 player, and the line, "We're just talking...to the kids", makes me chuckle every time I hear it!
Good Weekend was released as a single in 2005 and here it is being performed in a live session on BBC 6Music. "I've seen her naked. TWICE!"
Art Brut - Good Weekend (live on 6music) mp3 (available for 7 days)
Buy Art Brut's debut album, It's A Bit Complicated from Mutebank.co.uk.
And find out more about the band at their website and myspace page.
I'm off to sulk.
Snapshots #371 - A Top Fifteen Songs About Film Stars (By Other Names)

It's a rather cumbersome title to this week's quiz... but I'm sure you all
know what I mean.
Here are fifteen songs about what Ray Davies called Celluloi...

i've seen them accidentally a few times - an old pal is a big fan and doesn't tell me that's where we're going - and they've been ace. a right proper row at times but you kind of want to buy them a beer after.

Our sixth form kiddies are doing music video projects at the moment and when they say they can't make something like a real band would make with the equipment and facilities we've got I show them the video to Good Weekend and they get all inspired.
What a shame about Criminal Records. Bloody Tesco.
Bang Bang Rock 'n' Roll is a very entertaining album. (and yes, this is my, umm, typing voice.)
Another Tunbridge Wells blogger? Criminal Records is a sad loss. This very US centric but I'll be posting about Record Store day

Cheers,
Roger
That's right, Roger. I'm missing Criminal Records already.
Record Store day sounds like an interesting idea. Anything which gets people to notice their local independent record shops can't be a bad thing.
